Sniper Ghost Warrior 2: Playthrough
I had to think hard to remember playing the first instalment of Sniper Ghost Warrior back in 2010. It wasn’t the most memorable game and I was getting it confused with the much better and more recent sniper game ‘Sniper Elite V2’ released in 2012.
This is a short playthroughbecause I don’t think SGW 1 or 2 have much to talk about. It came across to me as just another first person shooter that’s using the exact same formula that it knows will sell. First person games seemed to be limited on creativity; but some can be surprisingly original when experiments pay off, as in ‘Dishonoured’.
The only different aspect from this is obviously it being based around a sniper, which are usually only sub plots in other FPS. I love stealth games, but it isn’t for everybody; there are many moments of waiting around for shots and sitting behind your Spotter who early on in the game shows you the ropes. Sadly I thought the story was mundane and it struggled to fuel my interest.
Just less than three years later and SGW 2 was released. As a whole, it was a hell of a lot better than the first one.
In my opinion – because that’s all this is, – they succeeded in improving on all aspects. The graphics, the story, the action and stealth, but still fell short of the intensity needed to keep you interested. So I’m still not a fan of this series, but then, I never will be because I don’t like first person shooters.
But if you do and you’re sick of the frantic running and shooting from the likes of ‘Call of Duty’ and ‘Battlefield’ and fancy a change of pace then Sniper Ghost Warrior: 2 is definitely worth renting. There are better games out there but if you love the idea of being a sniper then give it a go.
